Seven races will be run and won out of the Sugar City that is Mackay. The track is a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position - PERFECT!
We have a bit of a busy start to the afternoon, so we will just watch the first race, given the top four in the market are between $3.70 and $4.60 and have to carry 62kg, 62.5kg, 63kg and 63.5kg. Is this a High Weight race at The 'Bool?
There is no prizes for finding Right Bower in the second, but he looks the perfect anchor for any multis today. Now third-up for his new stable and out to 1300m, he should be ready to win. Drawn gate two under Brad Pengelly, he should get the dream run and be putting a gap in this spud of a field.
Bondi Beau is looking for three straight, and we, along with the market (#THEY), are keen to play. The son of Brazen Beau has been ridden forward in his last two runs which have been the recipe for big wins at Mackay and the greatest track in Australia, Rockhampton, so we can't see why he won't do it again. Up to 1300m is perfect given he drops 1.5kg and will be on the pace from the wider gate. He ran third to Zou Dancer at start two (5th in the Group 1 Australian Guineas last month - GOOD FORM!) so we are going to trust that that form stacks up in a BM70 on a Tuesday in Mackay.
Hey Siri, play '...Baby One More Time'. Oops, I Did It Again. The former Victorian has been airborne in nine NQ starts, winning seven and running second in the other two. He is unbeaten over the 1050m journey at this track and is now looking for six straight wins. The son of Nicconi has to carry 60kg, but from barrier one Trinity Bannon should be able to get some cover up on the speed behind other speedy types in Moreno and Our Boy Pendles. Hit Me.
The fifth sees a field of 10 BM55ers do battle over the 1560m trip. The price is gone for Lets Torque A Deel ($7.50 -> $4.80), but we still want to play. The four-year-old Dundeel gelding has had just two NQ runs, finishing third first-up over 1300m and then folding late after being on the speed in a fast run 1400m race at Rocky 11 days ago. Up to the mile is bound to suit this bloke as he has placed in three from five at this trip. He gets a good barrier under the fisherman and he should be winning.
Top of my bucketlist is to go Overseas and see The Egyptian Pyramids. The top two in betting will control this race, and at $2.70 a piece, lets back both and walk away with a collect either way. Have something on the exacta too. Overseas looks a really nice three-year-old who has won four of his ten starts, while The Egyptian looks ready to fire third-up for his new stable. Ash Butler on board should see him lead too. Overseas goes on top.
It is a very open 3YO Handicap to end the day, with a number of live chances all the way down the board. Miss Lot Won looks very hard to beat after a great run in a $100k race at Rocky last start and Gamboa is looking for four in a row, but we are going to speck one at a longer price, a little left of field. She Made Me Do It has won just one from 11, but has been in and around the money behind Aleysa's Dream, Princess Rules and Isis Brumby - three horses who go very well - so this race shouldn't be any harder. The gelding gets in light with 54kg and has drawn well in gate four to be in the box seat. Back to 1100m a month between runs should suit.
