A seven race card will be run and won at Mackay this afternoon on a Good 4 track. There is plenty of winners to be had, so let's get into it!
We start off our betting in the second race of the day with Tom Smith's 3YO, Jack's Echo. I really have liked the way this horse has gone about his five runs to date, in particularly the way he returned at Rocky just seven days ago when fourth. He was in the worst part of the track that day (anywhere that wasn't the fence was off) and he still worked well into it before fading late. He will be fitter second-up and gets to a suitable trip at the 1300m. Ash Butler on from barrier five is a big plus too.
We will skip the third and get into the fourth where again we are confident that the in-form Ash Butler can steer home the winner. Sirfina has been placed in all four runs this prep and now gets to Mackay where he is undefeated, including a win at this track and trip (1050m). The Tim Cook-trained sprinter has to overcome the wide alley, but with little to no other speed in the race, he should be able to get across easily enough and dictate terms. Louie The Legend beat him last time at Rocky, but Sirfina meets that gelding 0.5kg better and will also have a much shorter straight to contend with, so he won't be a sitting duck.
The sixth race presents us with a bit of value in the form of Bogey Man from the Mike and Christine Dore stable at Rockhampton. Previously with Lindsay Hatch, the 8YO is also on the quick back-up after finishing third at Rocky last time out over 1400m. Now up to the 1560m course at Mackay should suit, especially given he drops 3.5kg. He reeled off some slick closing sectionals at Rocky last time out which will only aid his chances this afternoon in a race with a decent amount of speed. Happy to be on each-way here.
