Ipswich | January 18

Well James McDonald and Brae Sokolski won the Melbourne Cup and now the Magic Millions 2YO with Coolangatta and are proving to be quite the combination. Another classic combination is that of midweek racing at Ipswich littered with magical maidens that we are sorting out way through. We are running on a Soft 5 with the rail out 5m for the entire course with the first race to jump at 1:03pm AEST.

Race 1: QTIS 2YO (1200M)

QTIS money up for grabs here and best of luck to them with the two big sires in Capitalist and Russian Revolution doing battle, will be a nice watch going forward.

Race 2: MAIDEN Plate (1690M)

With Virtuosity coming out the market has shifted to both Pushkin and Dreaming Jeanie. We have been on the Jeanie a few starts but from the gate Laraina should be taking this up and surely this time with fitness all time high gets the nod here in this competitive maiden plate.

Race 3: Open Handicap (1350M)

Forster and Byrne just missed on Saturday with Apache Chase but can get the chocolates here with Red Chase. He will be camped just behind the speed and with a third behind Tambo’s Mate in the listed Tatts Recognition confident can knock off the favourite in Bold Warrior.

Race 4: MAIDEN Handicap (1200M)

Time to grab a top up of your drink and do form for the next race this is just a mess.

Race 5: MAIDEN Handicap (1200M)

This should be a good form race with the first starter from Vandyke running into the hotpot from the Schweida yard and the costly Gollan runner in More to Adore. The latter gets blinkers first time which should sharpen him up and hopefully have him settle down while the favourite has had the ultimate gear change. Those three should be thereabouts but pretty hard to split here.

Race 6: 0 – 65 Handicap (1200M)

First Crown gets into this well and will be fitter for the first up run behind Kingston’s Here however the race will probably be lead off by the two start winner this preparation in Magnitudo. The form around the former just appears superior here and even without the claim I think will be too strong second up.

Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1690M)

Another even mile race here where luck in running will play a big part. Edinburgh just missed last start at Doomben and was long price that day, not so this start. She will be in the first few pairs from the draw and should be camped just off them. Tilly’s Spirit comes through a last start fail on a heavy surface but this track should be to her liking. Stepping out in trip is also a tick and with Fradd on board is a great EW bet here.

Race 8: Benchmark 68 (1350M)

The benchmark 68 should be jump lead and win and for that reason Capri of Tuffy gets it done here. Two wins in a row now and looking for the third even from barrier 10 she should begin well and that should be the end of it.

Race 9: Class 1 Handicap(1350M)

Best of luck in the last.
