It is another mid week cracker; another belter at out Bundamba Racecourse or as we know it, Royal Ipswich. We are spoilt with a couple of Benchmark races, some nice Class Plates and the infamous return of Haky who ho we think it is fair to say has been running since about 1980. We will be running on a Good 4 with the rail out 8m for the entire course. The first race is set to jump at 1:35pm AEST.
Race 1: MAIDEN Plate (1700M)
A belting middle distance battle over the 1700M which makes this race a piece of cake. Many of the field only have a few starts under their belt but I have sided with the favourite here in Kopangi. Clearly the Sunshine Coast poly track is not his go. Up in trip and on the turf at Ipswich from barrier three he will be very hard to beat. Ron Stewart on for the injured Orman here and in behind Nassau County he should be too strong late.
Race 2: QTIS 3YO MAIDEN (1350M)
This is no from us, many are first up and with a short priced Waller runner - happy to give it a miss here.
Race 3: Class 2 Plate (1100M)
Well well well, this race is deadest the best second place runner handicap with Frederick the Dane, So Clever, Allez Zou and Super Gorgeous all lining up. Speed from a few here and even last start winner Miss Clicquot who was impressive will be hunting the head position. Super Gorgeous from the draw gets the drop on this lot though and I think it will make all the difference. With three starts this track for two wins and third with two placings on the soft track he looks very hard to beat here.
Race 4: Benchmark 68 (1200M)
Well there was a call from leading mug Moz over the weekend regarding kicking, licking and well dicking and that is something this horse will do. Harlequin Field was due to run this time last week and will lead and with Big Dog Baylee back and firing he will rate this horse perfectly out in front and with fitness at its peak. He will be full of running on the corner and very hard to stop.
Race 5: Benchmark 65 (2200M)
We have a few runners here coming off the nominations last start along with poly track runners all coming together in a classic Ipswich Benchmark 65 over the 2200M. Neptune’s Choice has been crying out for this trip and with a potential good track on the cards and a low draw, he has favours here. He will be sitting just off the leaders and with classy late sectionals should be hard to hold out here.
Race 6: Class 3 Handicap (1700M)
In the fifth we have a Class 3 plate and we get Vendidit back to this grade with Sherry Tom taking three kilos off. There should be plenty of pace with more than half the field having the speed to take it up, but from the inside, Bondurant should ping the lids and be off in front. Helmet Head comes to this for the Dunn stable and from the pole draw should be able to box seat in behind a hot tempo. He has never missed a place over this trip, and to put it simply, the weight just stopped him at Grafton. Senior jockey in Fradd booked - he is way over the odds at $12.
Race 7: Class 5 Plate (1350M)
This is a pretty decent race for mid week Ipswich with a few Saturday class battlers set to do battle. Haky is back for the Dunn yard and surely this is short of his best trip and also doesn’t go a yard first up but who knows, jury is well and truly out there. The blinkers have been applied for the first time which may allow Getyourgreyon to not overrace, but Enterprise Prince and See Marie surely are the quinella here. From the draw Enterprise Prince gets the nod from me and will get a peach of a ride with QLD newcomer Sammy Collett in the saddle.
Race 8: Class 1 Handicap (1350M)
We round out the day with a Class 1 Plate and we have Celtic Princess with form around our own Mystic Aroma. She beat Mysty home that day and has runs in behind Uncommon James, Rayjen and was a last start winner here on the heavy. Draws a little bit sticky in barrier 12 but taking on trust this is the form to follow and is a great bet at the $7 each way odds.
