Eagle Farm | December 21

Writer: Mugs PuntingMugs Punting

In the lead up to the big man sliding down a few chimneys he has treated us with a beautiful eight race card on heavens deck at Eagle Farm racecourse. Not only is at headquarters up here in Brisbane but the mugs have a runner in the seventh which we are stoked about. We will be racing on a good 4 track with the rail out five metres for the entire course with the first race is to jump at 1.38pm AEST.

Race 1: Benchmark 68 (1400M)

I think this race sets up pretty well for favourite in Ekaterina. She had a freshen up of thirty five days so there will be a fair bit of residual fitness and with a fifth behind Stroll who came out and wont he listed Mode Stakes that form lines up well. She was not beaten all that far in that listed race and will be camped just off them here in the run.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1400M)

Absolutely zero idea here.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1400M)

Copy paste above, back the best jockey, in this case Orman but pretty hard to have too much idea particularly in a small field.

Race 4: Class 1 (1000M)

Well Miss Tambo here draws the pole and was pretty classy from back in the field last start at the Sunshine Coast. Her second up statistics are pretty good never missing a place and the way she let down last start she is backable at the price. This will be her second go at the track but her first attempt was against a quality field and she has come on since then.

Race 5: Class 5 (1200M)

Interesting race this but I have sided with the top weight in Ventura Ocean. Put simply, bin that last race at the Gold Coast, obviously didn’t handle the track and his first up tilt down at Rosehill a few lengths off Fox Fighter looks good for this race. The key here is four starts at the farm for two wins and two thirds so clearly does his best work around headquarters.

Race 6: Benchmark 70 (1500M)

Going back to the well here with Wilmot Pass. He has been very good his last two and while he has little success here this race sets up well. Key rival here Goldeel carries a similar weight to last start and was beaten by this bloke last start. While the favourites does have a superior second up record I am happy to back the pass who should sit one back one out in the run and get the last crack at them.

Race 7: Class 3 (1400M)

This race is simple back us in, back the mugs in, Mystic Aroma goes around was super flying home late last start at Ballina and is having another crack at the farm. She will improve and from barrier nine will let the work get done up front and be charging home, lets go Mysty!

Race 8: Benchmark 70 (1825M)

Middle distance at Eagle Farm I think there is only one way to go here and that is with the Waller army and Kopangi. James Orman sticks after a gallant effort in the wrong part of the track at the Gold Coast last start where he was running through the line and past the winner after the post. Fitness should not be a problem here and from barrier nine with the pace on the inside he will get the drop and unleash that turn of foot.
