Doomben | July 13

Racing midweek post-carnival is a lottery and one that we Mugs love to play. The rain has been around, we head back to the hallowed turf of Doomben and nine races can be money makers here. A Soft 6 track is forecast and the rail goes out 5 metres. The first race is set to jump at 12:00pm AEST.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1050M)

Nice maiden to start the day and happy to side with Bright Tiara. In behind Spiritualised first up and while the winner was soft she was rattling home in behind them and should be closer in the run and be able to close this out late.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1200M)

Interesting runner here in Maple Door who is out of the same dam as our bloke Sir Carter. Was a nice run first up but would prefer over a bit further. Drawn to get the favours and could win this but a few unknowns, happy to see a nice run giving confidence for when Sir Carter begins his prep.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)

Billionair Baby looks a good horse and has had two super runs first time in. He was in behind one of our mug favourites in Northern Express last start and prior in behind Corfe Castle. Like a Lark has since come out of the race and won, so the form appears to be stacking up. Yes he is short but should be winning.

Race 4: MAIDEN (1200M)

This is a simple no bet race here. Too many first starters and we are staying out.

Race 5: Benchmark 85 (2030M)

Our favourite race of the day - the time honoured daily Middle Distance Handicap, with the same 50 horses that run this race every week. The question is, who wins today? Fast Talking should just simply win this but for the exotic players I think he will be fighting it out with Blacklog who finally gets to a suitable trip.

Race 6: Class 5 (1350M)

The Uncommon James form is quality with Mill Rossa winning two coming into that race, but equally the Go Wanji form will probably going forward be strong and any horse that gets within two lengths of it is worth thought. I think Acrobatic can lead them around the corner and will just be too hard for Joy Too All to make up ground late so I am siding with it.

Race 7: Class 2 (1050M)

Kingscote looks to get the run of the race here and flies first up. Will be leading form the inside draw and with last prep runs not far off The Big Goodbye, Contemptuous and She Can Sing. From barrier two he will get every favour and with Noel Callow on board he will give it every chance.

Race 8: Benchmark 68 (1630M)

Pretty keen on a roughie here in Ginja from the O’Dea & Hoysted yard. The first up run is a complete forget; he always runs poorly first up. Drawn out to sit off the pace and with give in the ground and a more appropriate trip, he is a great bet here at the $11.

Race 9 Benchmark 65 (1200M)

The odds on runner here looks the only pace over 1200M and will just be winning but cannot be taking the $1.35 on offer that is poison.
