It’s a huge week in Queensland racing with the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast and with that it brings a plethora of the best jocks in the country to race for the big dollars but before that we get a cheeky mid week eight race card at Doomben. We are running on a Soft 5 with the rail out 8.5m for the entire course with the first race to jump at 1:34pm AEST.
Race 1: 3YO Benchmark 68 (1050M)
We start off the day with a pretty competitive three year old event. Rubiquitous was impressive in his first prep and will only take improvement from that and with the lightly raced Self Indulgent from the premier Gollan yard going around it appears a race in two. Happy to focus on a few other bets for this meeting.
Race 2: MAIDEN (1050M)
First starter central, time to review the millions purchase book to see if we can find a few to buy while this is running.
Race 3: 3YO MAIDEN (1200M)
It is a similar story in race three for the lightly raced youngsters and while the form around the favourite Royal Rebellion looks strong from the like of Frosty Mango the gun remains in the holster for this event.
Race 4: Benchmark 75 (2050M)
We step out over the distance trip for the midweek Chris Waller middle distance trip and have a last start winner coming up the shorts. The key difference on last start is jumping from the 53.5kg to the 57kg. While they do say weight stops the best of them this race lacks a little depth and to be honest Stuck With You should have this all sown up with any similar run in transit.
Race 5: Benchmark 75 (1110M)
David Van-Doomben saddles up the top two in the market here and its fair to say Toorooloo has been nothing but impressive so far. He has a good hedge each way here with once sitting back and the other probably taking up the running. I think the roughie here in Bestie ridden closer can give this a shake. Was too far off them at Ipswich latest so needs to be no more than two pairs back and could fend off the challenges because there are a few here with an explosive turn of foot.
Race 6: Class 1 Handicap (1650M)
Well this is simply Kerchak versus the rest. Lines up odds on here after going down first start and then making up for it with a four length demolition job at Ipswich last start. First go this trip but looks like he will get every bit of it. Trench Warfare and Rations will not make it easy though and could give this a real shake and the former has been building to it and with Nash Rawiller jumping aboard happy to be with the top weight in this one.
Race 7: Class 2 Handicap (1350M)
This race is the mugs race Mystic Aroma lines up for us an our loyal group of owners and we cannot wait for her to step out over this trip. On paper it’s a pretty even race and the market supports that but this is simply back the truck up and back Mystic Aroma simple as that!
Race 8: Benchmark 65 (1200M)
There is speed then there is race eight here at Doomben. This looks to be an absolute lightning quick race. Almost the entire field looks like they will want to be in the front three or four and could present for something to explode late and gun them all down. Kings Rule will look to take them on early from the gate but if he settles close his record on this ground and over this trip is far superior to his rivals. Brett Prebble to round out the day!
