Cairns Preview 13/04/21

Well it's fair to say it was a strip out at Ipswich on Monday and Bean's stalk was left wanting more. We've hopped in the LaMUGini and headed 1750km north to Cairns for seven races at Cannon Park. The track is a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position for the entire course.

Let's skip the first race. If Koonunga Hill is ever going to win a race it'll be this one. But at $1.65 we don't really want to find out.

The second race we aren't going to win people's hearts for tipping this one, but Modernism is a genuine put in, take out job at $1.55. She is a genuine up and coming star in the NQ ranks and will be worth following through the carnival which is only around the corner. She won four straight last prep and resumed with a good fourth behind Dunatun. That's the form, she wins and wins well.

Only six runners contest the third race and it is another sit back and watch race for us. It's a Tuesday, but it'll be just shy of 3pm so go and grab yourself a beer. You've earned it.

Battle Cry resumes in the fourth and we are pretty confident he can make it four straight. Zac Lloyd will take 3kg off the five-year-old's back which will be advantageous, and he has drawn the rails so he won't have to do any work. He should be able to box seat and be too good again for this lot.

We were a touch keen to get stuck into Brilliant Mind at even money, but the odds on quote that is now available is a bit skinny for the Steven Massingham runner. Nonetheless, we are making him a bet because he should be winning, but we'll be using a powerplay or boost. Well, at least we'll suggest that - we're banned. He was racing really well last prep which saw him run second to one of our favourites; North Afrika. That is good enough to win here.

Zac Lloyd can ride a double on Tuesday when he partners Tennessee Boy in the penultimate race. He has beaten some good horses in his short career, including the likes of Higher Realm and Derulo. With placings behind Bold Eos and Robig already this campaign, we are confident he can get into the winner's circle. Big watch on Cleaver Greene though; the stable has pretty much declared him...

Let's go big in the last race of the day. Ex-Tommy Button mare Woohoo Girl is having her first start for Trevor Rowe and should be suited to the Cairns track. She hasn't won for a while - July 2020 at Esk - but some of her runs were better than what it reflects on paper. At $19, we'll have a small 1x3 play and cross our fingers and toes.
