We are going back to back at Doomben from Saturday and there is a clear lack of racing. It is an seven race card and we will be racing on what will be a soft 5 track with the rail out seven and half metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 1.08pm.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1350M)
This race is just a complete pass, cannot entertain any of these and there is so little form to go on that its best to save your pennies.
Race 2: Benchmark 65 (2220M)
Small and tough race this but keen to play Lately here for the Freedman yard. Our jockey in Du Plessis goes on board and with one of his two wins coming over this trip and getting out to this race third up he looks primed and ready to go. Was charging home late when he peaked on run late and will be all the fitter for the run.
Race 3: MAIDEN (1350M)
Fair to say there are few in here that really do not like the winning post but I think we have found one. Ben Thompson jumps aboard Azure Pride for Heathcote and drawn the pole gets every favour here. Coming off a wide barrier last start and heavier weights he gets in well here and will be leading this field on a merry dance.
Race 4: Class 1 (1350M)
Pretty hard what to make of Headlock last start was very good but flying home may not be the recipe here at Doomben or may not get that chance. Maid to Fit was a nice winner and the stable is airborne and with James Orman on board and barrier one and another run under the belt I think can be winning again.
Race 5: Class 5 (1350M)
I think you have to be with Prime Asset here. He comes here after a really nice last start third behind Viminele and Release the Beans and Shibli has since come out of that race and franked the form. Ben Thompson should be able to lead this field comfortably and if they do cross him he can will be able to take a sit and be on their backs to jump off and around them late.
Race 6: Benchmark 68 (1200M)
Boom Torque is utterly airbone. Starting to build the picket fence and from barrier eight with Orman sticking hard to see them beating him here. He loves this track and clearly 1200M is the pet trip. He will be one out one back and the $3.20 is a spoil.
Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1650M)
The ex-kiwi was very good first up for the Gollan yard behind the classy Naval Trader. Rising Pacific steps out to the 1650M here and the way he was running on last start this extra trip will really suit. He will be much closer from barrier three and if he shows a similar turn of foot he looks hard to beat here.
