Doomben | March 11

It was monsoonal weather over the weekend and thoughts are with those further North who are more impacted by this wild weather. We are back to Doomben for this card and that means post the rain that there will be plenty of give in the track. The rail is out eight and a half metres and we find ourselves on a heavy 8 track with the first race to jump at 1.38pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1350M)

This is a handy little race and there is one here that was very brave last start out wide on the track. Delicious Derek was good last start and steps out to the 1350M here, gets a heavy track and will be tucked in behind them from a nice barrier draw and Ben Thompson sticks.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1110M)

They may take our money, but they’ll never take our FREEDOM, yep keep it that simple, back Braveheart after two nice trials and prior win on a heavy deck from barrier one.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1110M)

There will be a bit of speed in this race over the short trip and will be a battle up front with Aristrocractic Girl and Mercatello but I thought that Pearls of June fresh on the heavy track while the distance seems a bit short may feel more like a 1350M race, so godspeed Damien Boche.

Race 4: Class 3 (1650M)

Not keen to have a bet here but thought that Airswing and Don’tcha Think were the two with heavy and distance form and both drawn well which will be key in this races to be close enough to the speed.

Race 5: MAIDEN (1650M)

This is a pretty big field for a mile race on the wet track at Doomben. There will be enough speed to get the backmarkers into this and one of those is the Better Than Ready filly in Chayse ‘N’ Bodhi. She should handle the ground and is not far away from a win so as long as you can run on today she will be flying late.

Race 6: Benchmark 68 (1350M)

Well we are hoping the form is franked in the race prior with Chayse ‘N’ Bodhi and if so then our number one selection here in Cool Moon looks the one. Has handled soft tracks before and from barrier 6 with the her on pace style she will be right there ready to strike late. With two runs prior over the 1200M the step out should be no issue with peak fitness no issue.

Race 7: Class 2 (1350M)

A pretty hard race to assess here but siding the way of the Matt Dunn trained Moon Sweeper. Comes through a highway last preparation in behind So You Are who was competitive enough here previously and prior had been beating home horses like Prince Levi albeit over the mile. He runs well fresh and should appreciate a bit of sting out of the ground.

Race 8: Class 1 (1200M)

Well they either think Berezka is a sprinter solely or this was the only race they felt she could win. She was a mile off them last start and may only be getting this starting price because of the stable name. The barrier allows Jace options and hopefully can hold a position closer to the speed. She did accelerate late quite well and goes on top in a race that is even under the conditions.
